Frequently Asked Questions about Gorilla Trekking

The chances of seeing gorillas are very high and are generally above 95%. Rangers track the individual gorilla families daily and usually know their whereabouts. However, as these are wild animals in their natural habitat, sightings cannot be guaranteed 100%.

Gorilla trekking is possible year-round. The best months are during the dry seasons from June to August and December to February, as the trails are less slippery.

A solid basic level of fitness is recommended. The hikes can last between 1 and several hours depending on the location of the gorillas and may involve steep, densely vegetated terrain.

We recommend long, lightweight trousers and a long-sleeved shirt, ideally in neutral colors such as khaki or green. These protect against thorns and nettles in the dense rainforest. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good grip and a light backpack are essential. A rain jacket is also advisable, as short showers can occur at any time in Bwindi Forest.

Yes, the minimum age for gorilla trekking in Uganda is 15 years.
